Glass, one of the oldest well-known building materials, has been living its golden age in the world and in our country for the last twenty years. There is no other natural and infinitely lasting building material that can be used instead of glass in buildings. Of course, there are many reasons why glass is so special. Float glass is produced by floating the glass melting on molten tin. Colorless float glass has a high light transmittance thanks to its transparency.
Float Glass Properties :
The glass blend, which is a mixture of raw materials with certain properties and quantities, especially sand, soda and limestone, is melted in a furnace at about 1600°C. The glass melts poured from the furnace at about 1100° into the molten tin pool and the glass is floated on the tin, ensuring that the two sides are flawless and parallel to each other, as well as the thickness and strip width of the glass.
Benefits of Float Glass:
The temperature of the glass strip coming out of the tin pool without interruption is reduced in a controlled manner and the stresses in the glass are removed in the cooling section. Following this, the glass is cut to the desired dimensions on the cutting line, collected in packages and made ready for shipment.
Glass, which is an architectural and automotive product, can be cut to the desired dimensions and used as a safe material that provides thermal insulation, solar and noise control, and is now able to compete with other building materials. It can be used as it comes out of the production line, or by applying secondary processes such as edge processing, lamination, tempering, coating, mirroring, double glazing in order to improve its basic properties, it can be used in many sectors such as construction, decoration, automotive, white goods, agriculture and energy by providing the functions of – safety and security – heat control – solar control – heat and solar control – decoration – noise control.
